AS THE STORY GOES...

(Serendipity is a propensity for making fortunate discoveries while looking for something unrelated)

How it happened as my father related the story was that my grandfather’s foot was caught in the gears of the donkey, his leg was pulled in, he had to hang on to prevent himself from completely being eaten by the machine.

If it wasn’t for those he worked with and their quick action and quick thinking I would never have known my grandfather and I would never have gone fishing with him or have experienced all of the wonderful memories that I have of him today.

My father explained that these wonderful, hard working, brave men who worked in extreme conditions knew enough within no time at all (because if they had taken any time to think it out or hesitated all would have been lost for me and for all who have benefited by knowing my grandfather)…instead they instantly took control of the situation.

They worked together and lodged a pole of some sort between the cogs in that machinery and as a team and as a force of nature working against the machine they jammed that monster and they pulled my grandfather to safety.

Not only did they succeed in pulling him out of the jaws of death in the wilderness but they somehow were able to then get him down off that mountain without him bleeding to death. A man drove him to Seattle in time to save his life and his limb.

I wonder now if my Grandfather and his collection of steam engines.
I wonder now if it may have been his way of taming or having power over the beast, or to remind himself how he did not let the beast conquer him on the mountain long ago, he and his team who saved his life would not allow him to be gobbled up by it.
