He holds it out to me as if I could reach out and take it from his hand…I had held this same rock once.
Thought Rock #1 Received by H in 2011
A Skype snapshot of my brother holding the first “Thought Rock” that I sent to him during his deployment in Our War.
A thought rock is a rock that I send to my brother to let him know that I am thinking of him.
This snapshot that I took is him letting me know that he received the first one of many now that have been sent to him.
I send him one a week to countdown the weeks until he comes home.
At first I guess I was thinking, feeling that the rocks symbolized my way of showing to him that he was always in my thoughts, to let him know that he was not forgotten, never far away from me. Now I realize that the rocks and the act of mailing them each week and the act of choosing which rock to mail to him along with a message that I choose as well to accompany the rocks — a thought to go with them for the week — are for me as much as for him.
The rocks help me feel connected to him, to help me feel that he is not so far away from me and that soon he will be home.
