Our War Day: 207-20110223 by Cara Schingeck

FEATURED in Art with Meaning

MEDIUM: Faber-Castell / Kimberly graphite, General’s charcoal, chalk on vellum

I was inspired by Lara Logan after I watched her interview of the second female soldier to receive the Silver Star.

Actually, as I watched this interview of one strong, brave woman being conducted by another strong, brave woman, I was reminded of the violent sexual assault that Lara Logan endured in Egypt. So, being reminded of how she was saved by strong, brave women who protested for freedom of oppression and fought for their rights as well as fought for the life of a stranger from another country, a woman who dressed differently, had different beliefs, but who was being attacked and who needed their help…the women who fought for her life and who saved her life – all of these brave women inspired me today.

How much her words mean to me today as I listen to NPR news about threats from Iran but not just that not the fear no that’s not why I remember this brave woman I remember her because of her honesty and her ability to be herself without apology to achieve her dreams.
