General’s charcoal pencil, charcoal stick and chalk stick on bond paper.
This portrait is of my brother and my brother’s best friend and his brother in law. They are both soldier’s and they are both heroes to me.
My brother’s best friend served in Iraq and is currently home with his family.
I found my inspiration for my drawing today from a photograph of them both at the party our families gave for my brother before he deployed to the Middle East.
On that day, the day of the party it was a hot summer day in the Northern part of the United States. We were at the lake that my brother’s best friend, his brother in law, who is family to me as well…we have so many memories there at that place.
We were all there, I remember when we were much younger playing volleyball, water skiing, goofing off. Now, we have young children, grown children.
On that day we talked mostly. On that day we did not play games as much as enjoyed being in the company of one another.
I have to say it was one of the best parties I have ever been to because I truly appreciated and I truly valued each and every second that I spent with everyone who was there and I listened…really listened to everything that they said because I wanted to remember everything that day. I realized then that this was how life is meant to be lived. My brother always teaches me something and even on the day of his party to say goodbye until his return he taught me something very important…to enjoy and to appreciate each moment of each day and to honor and to respect each and every person I encounter.
