MEDIUM:
mixed media using ink and Prismacolor pencil, a self portrait drawing on bond paper

INSPIRATION:
Tonight I made a self portrait as I looked through my garden window this evening. I was thinking of my brother who is deployed in our war and far away from me.

I thought about how many families this holiday season will be without their loved ones as I am without my brother.

I thought about our last Christmas and about how all of us were together.

I stared at my reflection in the glass of the window and I could see my garden when the security lights would flash on…showing me my garden.

I thought of how often my brother was with me this summer in my heart and how often I wished he were here to see the progress my husband and I had made in our small backyard.

I thought of my brother and my sweet nieces, nephews and sister-in-law visiting for a picnic, a visit in our little garden…I cannot even remember anymore how many times that I had this thought this past summer.

I thought of how nice it will soon be for us all to be together again…to be able to have all of these wishes, these thoughts come true-as I gazed at my reflection tonight.

The darkness and then the flash of light from the security lights that showed me my garden-the garden of this past summer filled with thoughts and promise of my brother’s return.

Welcome To My World
