My portrait today is of a foreign soldier in Afghanistan walking through a field of pomegranates.
This is just one of the farming industries in Afghanistan. I was inspired to create my drawing today because of numerous reports that our soldiers are in a war reminiscent in my view of Vietnam. In the way that the enemy is what one interview of a returning combat veteran said was that the enemy (the Taliban, insurgents) they are “ghosts” hiding in the fields. The farmlands of Afghanistan are home to insurgents where a foreign soldier-our war soldier may be speaking to a farmer and not know that he is actually an insurgent…our soldiers must be always on their guard and it must be very surreal for them all and that is why I chose to create my portrait of our war today in an abstract surrealist manner.
