Our War: Day 70-20101009 by Cara Schingeck
Clear

MEDIUM:
charcoal pencil and chalk emboss/tracing, and abstraction as well as gestural on bond paper

a self portrait, a abstract realistic portrait of myself as the comedy and tragedy masks.

I was inspired to create-to depict my own emotions of how I feel about the war and the paradox of war.

I conceived of my drawing from the multitude of conflicting ideas, reality and surreality of our war…what is a truth, what is a lie, what is painful experience for one person may be an experience for rejoice or a triumph for another person. Our war is filled with examples of paradox.

I chose to use these two techniques in drawing-emboss/tracing, and abstraction as well as gestural to express my own internal self on paper about how I see the war and interpret the war which in my mind’s eye is very complex hence the complexity of using a variety of techniques

This is a self portrait but not in the conventional sense this is a self portrait in the unconventional sense…this is me-who I am inside and who I am at any given time as I feel, react, and interpret our war
