My portrait today is made in hard pastel on canvas. I was inspired today by the many faces of volunteers of organizations and faces of the soldiers from a variety of foreign military serving in the Middle East and elsewhere who provide aid to children.

In my portrait for today I depict a woman who may be a soldier or a volunteer and the profile of a child who may be from any country-any nationality. I chose to do my portrait of a woman because so many women in our war are missing from our media sources as far as being recognized for their service and their sacrifice and their accomplishments as far as from my research and my opinion.

I felt a desire to show that there are women around the world giving of themselves to help others and to serve without asking anything in return-this relationship of serving those in need is reciprocal and that is why I have blended, mixed, crossed over the boundaries of colors to demonstrate how I feel that the relationships of those who give of themselves in return receive a great gift from those who they come into contact with-there is a mixing, a harmonizing, a blending similar to when an artist does so with colors.
