I found inspiration for my drawing, “Our War: Part 00-40a”, from the numerous stories of how two very different cultures were trying to come together and find common ground and trying to understand one another in order to work together for peace in a country that was a combat zone and in chaos.

#Our War series prior to August 1, 2010 by Cara Schingeck is a drawing of a U.S. Soldier and Middle East civilian#

The “Our War: Part 00” drawings and paintings I created prior to my brother’s deployment.
I began creating these works when I was informed by my brother that he was going to be deployed.
This artwork symbolized the beginning of the Our War project—the start of me using art as a way to express my self through my art each day.
They are examples of how I came to realize that to stay close to my brother I would do a drawing or a painting a day to stay close to my brother upon his deployment through my “Our War” series.*

Love the portrayal of this Cara! You have such an important voice for what your brother and all the soldiers are going through. I so appreciate your perspective : )
Thank you Lynn
I appreciate what you have said to me because I try my best to honor my brother and all soldiers in our war…I am not with our soldiers, I do not know what they are truly experiencing. I only know through my research and my daily pain as any pain is felt of a family member feels who has a loved one in our war and that is the art that I create and I do my best to create a voice as you said in your comment which I appreciate so much and it is true that i do my best to do my best to create a voice which I feel needs be be heard in our world today, so many distractions to create apathy, stress, reluctance to take a stand…I feel we need to take notice and honor our soldiers returning and now redeploying in our war that for me seems never ending.
I appreciate you perspective and I appreciate your caring.
