My portrait today is of a U.S. Soldier reading a letter from home.

Today’s portrait was inspired by a video I viewed at the Dept of Defense’s website

This resource is full of very helpful information for military families and for those who have served our country, our war veterans.

I was also inspired by President Obama’s speech, when he said that he will be bringing home many of our soldiers soon.

I thought about what our Soldiers might be thinking about the idea that they may actually really be coming home, not just for a visit and I wondered what their families may be wondering, what their families may be feeling and anticipating as well.

This is just one drawing which I will be creating to depict my thoughts and feelings about our President’s speech…with the hope that soon our Soldiers, our loved ones will soon be home.

December 31, 2011:
My brother is home others are deployed and the war goes on and on and is it now a war or is it much more?
My words now are becoming more poetic, rhyme is becoming the norm for me.
Is that funny or is that sad?
Is it good or is it bad?
Oh well that was contrived but only as I was writing it did I discover it
Now I’m self editing
Truth is what I focus on
Don’t be self centered
Start to ask questions
Learn about others
Message is the focus
Or no
Yes learn, listen, question
This is what I learn from the world
Our world
The process
Keep going
A new year, a new life
My brother is home, others deployed and there is much more…

Albert, I appreciate your comment…your comment that you found it interesting pleased me because actually I was interested in drawing an image of a soldier and also inpired to show the daily life of a solider an intimate moment as I try to explain in my image description that accompanies this image. thank you for providing your feedback!
