The vicuña is a native animal of the Andes, lives at altitudes higher than 3,200 metres above sea level (m.a.s.l.). Their wool is extremely valuable so the vicuña is protected by law to prevent poaching.
This image taken at Lagunas Miscanti & Miniques in the Atacama Desert (Northern Chile and at 4,300 m.a.s.l.). It is a shy animal that is difficult to photograph close up. Using 280mm focal length (200mm lens + 1.4x extender) gave me the opportunity to capture this image.
