three insects wait patiently to see who is chosen as “the one”.

Unknown insects found in a neighbours front garden.

Image is UNTOUCHED, taken with an Olympus SP-570UZ.

This is the first time i have seen these types of insects.

UPDATED INFO: The bee at the top is a Cuckoo Bee and the three identical bees underneath it are all Blue Banded Bees

Kylie, do you like your Olympus? That’s the one I’ve had my eye on, but does it have a viewfinder? Love this photo! Amazing! What a catch.

  • Hillie. I LOVE my Olympus! yes, it does have a viewfinder and LCD screen. I am very happy with the photos i get from it, the super macro mode is great and the 20X zoom is a bonus too!

I do believe this was a great find… Thanks for the positive feedback.

Wow this is a gorgeous photo!! what a capture.. they look like bee’s of some description or a type of wasp. Are these australian bugs??

  • Thank you very much Heidi. I live in Sydney, Australia and the top blue one (The Cuckoo Bee) is a native bee.
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

There is a group called One, two, three,. They have a different number each week and this week its 4 of anything – you might consider putting this in it.

  • Thanks for that- i’ll look into it.

it is interesting – the 3 x lower bees are Blue Banded Bees. (see bubble mail).
however I’ve never seen such a vibrant BBB as the one on the top – this could be an Australian Geographic moment (big $$$) 8-)

  • The blue bee on the top is actually a Cuckoo Bee and i have been told all these bees are MALES. The female blue banded bee has 4 blue stripes where the males have 5 blue stripes.
Also, the Cuckoo Bee is an Australian Native Bee which preys on the nests of Blue Banded bees.
