Marvelous capture of nature! Are they sleeping or were they active? I know Blue Banded bees – along with many other solitary bees – sleep holding onto the perch (stick/twig) using their front ‘teeth’.

  • Hi Samuel, I think they were just resting as they flew away within a couple of minutes of me taking this photo.

A fabulous find,Kylie,i have only seen the banded blue bee twice in my life, and as for the cuckoo, never,it’s amazing, and i will look for information on it,but i think it’s name suggests that it intends to use the blue bee’s hive to raise its young, anyway an amazing find!!!

  • Yes, you’re right Lance.
This was the first time i had ever seen these bees. Hopefully i will be fortunate enough to see them again sometime in the future too.

Excellent capture – I have no idea anyway but the 3 do look rather subservient to the blue bee… Amazing

  • Thank you very much. They are 3 blue banded bees and on the top is a Neon Cuckoo bee.
