Artist's Description

This is the second piece in a series of ten pen and inks focused on working with proportion and architecture. It was originally done in 2007 using Indian ink on white Bristol board. Its original size was 20″×28″ and I added a couple close ups (in the same gallery) to let you see the level of quality and detail better.

There are some interesting things to note about this piece that you might miss at first glance. The first thing is the chess board, the pieces are laid out in such away that both kings (black and white) are put in checkmate by a rogue queen (gray). The next thing you might not notice are the four signs, one outside each door, which have each of the four card symbols. Other than that, there are poker chips, dice, and dominoes scattered around and its all on a giant wooden table. Everything else in the picture is pretty self explanatory and I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it!
