Sunflower
The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant native to the Americas in the family Asteraceae.
What is usually called the flower is actually a head of numerous flowers crowded together. The florets within this cluster are arranged spirally. Typically each floret is oriented toward the next by approximately the golden angle, producing a pattern of interconnecting spirals where the number of left spirals and the number of right spirals are successive Fibonacci numbers.
At sunrise, the faces of most sunflowers are turned towards the east. Over the course of the day, they move to track the sun from east to west, while at night they return to an eastward orientation.

Oh nice nice shot!!! My son just brought me a sunflower – this is inspiring! Mine hasn’t changed direction all day – is that because I just planted it?

Thanks, Jan! It might be because you just planted it. It also may be the age of the sunflower, they stop turning once they reach full maturity.

Ah, doubt it’s at full maturity yet then…unless it’s a small species. I know there are some hybrid types that don’t grow as tall and some that don’t turn. They are all so pretty nonetheless!

What a very cool and unusual view of a sunflower! The underside is as pretty as the top! I had a whole back yard full of sunflowers this year and loved it. It is interesting to read the detailed info about the flowers~new to me.
