The Coldest Winter. PT. 2

Am I doing well so far at keeping you attached to the story?!

“What’s wrong?”, I asked.
“You might want to sit down, dad.”
“Chris, Jake, What is going on?....” I paused and looked around for a second,
“Where’s your mom?” My heart began to sink even more than ever as they began to tell me the news.
“Dad,” my eldest son, Jake, began to speak, “Mom left.”
“What? What do you mean she left? The car is still outside. Where did she go?”
My mind was racing like crazy with many thoughts of what was happening.
“Here dad, she left us all a letter.”, said Chris, as he handed me an envelope with my name on it.
As I began to read, the pulse in my heart began to slow. For a moment, I beleive it completely stopped.
“Dear Mike,
I’m sorry I had to do this to you. Please, do not begrudge me or my actions. It isn’t that I do not love you, It’s just that I feel as though I need to find myself.
Please, so not try to find me. You will have no luck in that journey until the snow melts away. I will be but a shadow of your imagination.
Goodbye.”
What was this about? She wrote the same letter to the boys as well.
What does she mean by “I won’t find her until the snow melts away”?
Why would she, how could she just walk away from 25 years of marriage? What did I do wrong?
