Split Identity by Graham Beatty

This is the first shot I took with my new camera, my first DSLR (a Nikon D5100). It depicts part of the view from the bedroom window of my apartment in Windsor, Ontario. I’ve always been interested in the splitidentity of the building across the street. On the back side there is aged brick and you can see the remnants of an old-fashioned painted sign painted directly onto the brick, while the adjoining side is new brick and displays a “Luxury Lofts” sign. Trendy bars occupy the first floor, while a 1920s-vintage office building stands next door. My apartment building is actually an office building that was built in 1929 and converted to a residential building sometime in the 1970s or 1980s.

Proudly Canadian artist and photographer.
