A young Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta), has all it can do to stay balanced on a fence wire. Colorado winds can be nerve wrecking some days … photo taken out of my Van (open side window) while I was parked on the roadside. Berthoud, Colorado

When fully mature this little one will have a streaky gray back with bright yellow breast marked by a black V-shaped collar. Short wings, neck and tail with distinguised white edges are part of its makeup. It has a distictive flight pattern, a short fluttering burst followed by a long glide. Their song is a cheery ‘Gee-whiz-whillikers.’ Surely a Colorado favorite …
