All of the conditions formed today to spawn a gaggle of tornadoes… This one went rain wrapped right after this shot. We nearly got into trouble since we were on a dead end county road.
Storm had 3” hail

WOW! Talk about being in the right place at the right time with the camera. Otherewise, it would totally not be the right place. Glad it didn’t do damage. This is spectacular.

Wow, talk about hot off the press!!! Not only is this a timely capture but a very elegant one as well. I was going to be out on the plains this spring myself this month but life got in the way, so I’m all the more appreciative of excellent storm captures such as this one. Actually, this is simply put… stunning.

This was an exciting time… We got lucky and didn’t punch the big hail core…Just saw 1.5 inch….

Great shot , but can you do me a favour and add some information on the HDR process, things like , handheld or tripod, how many exposures if you have the setting even better, what software was used. That way I can accept into HDR Photography group

Yeah, I’ve experienced 1.5 inch hail… best to miss it. I had no idea this was HDR… that’s a compliment! I wish I could have been out in the mix today… saw the setup two days ago and then spent the day watching it explode across my computer screen from here in CA. Hope you have a great season!
Paul Davis
Absolutely amazing – well done on this capture and great choice in adding it to In the eyes of danger a very suitable group for this :)

Dennis, you have nerves of steel and such versatility in your photography. One minute you’re photographing tiny hummingbirds whirring in flight and the next you’re capturing massive clouds stirring up destruction. I’m amazed and in awe! This is a jaw dropper!

I hope the video turned out…. and thanks for the kind words…

Oh man….... I’ll tell you the same thing I told GErmy – don’t come running to me when a house falls on you!! but these shots are really really really awesome!!! ( a gaggle of tornadoes?? I’m sure that’s the real meteorlogical term hahaha!)

Your photo is amazing, I could stare at it for minutes and still not know what I’m feeling while looking at it. It’s a mix of fascination and fear, I think… It’s so beautiful and powerful, but at the same time destructive and dangerous. I wish I could see one, just to have this impression of being powerless against nature’s greatest force. Those dark clouds against the illuminated sky in the background, beautiful contrast! I’m going to add your shot to my favorites right away!
Steven Sandner
