Those are people sitting around the fountain (now torn down) in Washington Square Park, and as this man walked by he stopped to listen to the music where I was sitting. I thought he had a beautiful face, hadn’t noticed about his ankle. Thanks for your comment.

He was listening to people singing. At the time I didn’t take his expression as sad, so much as engaged. And he had a lovely face.
