The tones in this b&w are exceptionally rich. I love the capture – one man is with you, the other off somewhere else. If he wasn’t otherwise engaged, it would appear posed and nice but maybe ho-hum. Here the viewer doesn’t know if they were posing and he was distracted or it was candid and you were discovered. But who cares, right? No, I think human nature controls the interaction between viewer and image here – Unconsciously the viewer is going to ask that unanswerable question. With street scenes, as with any story, the mind abhors loose ends. We want answers, but this image is not giving it up and that adds a boatload of tension, elevating what could be a nice snapshot into a dynamic image. blah blah blah blah blah…... (but I’m right :) fine work, Judith.

Great dynamics between the men. One so confident the other plainly embarrassed by your attention. The tones are supreme. Great document of your neighborhood.

you have such a gift for these candid captures of “real” people and capturing the character of their individual lives…..somehow it always seems like they have given a blessing to the sharing of their images….because there is such an energy about those you photograph which is evident to me as an observer….. it is a frankness and openness that shows trust in the process.
    I really enjoy your work!
