The Elections... by camatie

Posted on November 05, 2008

Obama is officially the next president of the United States. And that is very VERY exciting to me, especially since this is the first election that I was old enough to vote in.

But I am also saddened by the fact that proposition 102 has all but passed here in Arizona. If you don’t know, prop 102 is the ban of gay marriage and it will be written into the Arizona constitution that “marriage is only a union between one man and one woman.” If this is going to stay, that means I will never be able to marry the woman that I love…

My nephew even has more sense of what is right and what is wrong. He is twelve years old and he told me yesterday that if he could vote, he would have voted no on 102 because it is unfair that gay couples are not allowed to marry and have the same rights as heterosexual couples just because they love someone of the same gender. I thought that was absolutely astounding and gave me a little hope for the future of America. Well my hope was building at least with Obama winning and then my nephew saying that. Haha.

Well that is my two cents for today.

Congratulations on your first vote. That is definitely a cause for celebration! I am sad to hear about proposition 102 passing. Proposition 8 in California was similar and it too passed. :-(

Thank you! :) I’m sad also to hear that prop 8 passed in California and that other proposition in Florida. It’ s just so sad that this is happening but hopefully the youth of America will create a revolution and this will all be resolved and homosexuals will no longer be discriminated against.

    That is my hope.

As long as people believe there is hope for change! I’m with you for justice and equality for all people! It is fear that drives those who discriminate. We just have to help them overcome their fear. A Black man was elected and the United States did not blow up. I think we will see more and more sectors of our society growing in tolerance and acceptance. Hold onto the hope and believe in change— and DO what it takes to help make equality a reality! You’ve already taken the first few steps - you voted and you are speaking up about the issue. There are many many people who support the cause of equality for all. :)

I really want to help, I wish I had even just a little bit of power so maybe, just maybe, I could help turn this around. I am still planning on trying though, maybe if it gets around it will get somewhere. :)

It will eventually be overturned. Help with that. Discrimination is protected under the constitution, apparently not in the Bible though… ; )

    I definitely will try! :)

Hey Katie…. Well I’m sure you already know my views on this and I did hear about the ban in Arizona as well. It saddens me to see so many ignorant people still feel like in this during this historic election we’ve had……
You can read my thoughts here I’d like to share them….

Keep fighting and be part of the protests being held, especially in our 2 states…
