Nature as an Abstract Painter by

One of the hot springs at Yellowstone National Park could well have been an abstract painting. The colors change appreciably with the sun passing overhead on a summer day.

Great shot Calvin. I like how the turquoise of the hot spring contrasts nicely with the rich earth tones of the surrounding sand. Have never been, but I’d love to get there. Cheers Eros

  • I find that the hillside and sky portion of the photograph allow/even push one’s eye to feast on the hot springs. Thank you for note.

When I first saw this image I thought it was a painting. I have heard a lot about this place and seen many photos of it. Excellent shot Calvin.

  • Certainly the fore ground could well be a painting and that reaction in my eye formed the title I gave to the photograph. Thank you

Stunning capture and colours Calvin .. love the title ~ how right you are about the light changing!

  • Other photographs on RB of the hot springs underscore how much the colors can change with sun, clouds, etc…. Thank you.

    What a beautiful image

  • Among the photographs that morning, I like this one best with the upper third of the photograph showing the hillside remnants of a lush forest after a fire—which, at least for me, cause the eye to peruse more carefully the colors of the hot springs area. Thank you.

  • As much as I like the photograph, it is but a pale representation of what I saw there. Thanks.

    Wonderful capture,great colors!

  • See preceding reply—I choose not to manipulate the capture but the colors at the site I believe are even much richer than the image.

But thank you for the compliment.

    Nice capture Calvin.

  • See preceding two replies—it is a bit amazing what colors appear naturally there. Mother Nature makes it easier.
