I read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley as a teenager. It blew me away that this guy in the 1930’s wrote about a future of genetic engineering, mass media fuelled consumerism, and just about every other degeneration to be seen in this modern life. He even described nightclubs full of flashing lights and repetitive hypnotic beats, the dancers would forget their ills by popping little pills and losing themselves in the ditzy lyrics of love and togetherness. A world where the senses are overwhelmed with images and sounds to dumb-down the masses and destroy the imagination. A new world that mocks the silly old ways of our God-fearing fathers, here children are taught sexual promiscuity in the classroom, a girl could get a bad name for herself by being monogamous. It is a brave new world that smothers any sense of individuality or divinity with communal programming and pleasure seeking. I think Mr Huxley had quite a vision.
