Acrylic on Canvas

does this look like a lion, thats what i thought anyway. this was the result of putting a blob of blue acrylc into a tub of white masonry paint and pouring it straight onto a red canvas and just letting it flow.

i felt i had lost my mojo and was just pouring stuff on and trying stuff without thought, i wasnt going to post these works but a friend helped me think i should just go for it – i think thats right for i have quite a narrow view of what art is, and i should let go now and then, just hang loose man .

i do know though that blue is the colour of heaven, white is purity and red is war and sacrifice, three is the magic number and here it all flowed into this lion, my king of kings.

This is amazing Matt! It jumps right off the page! I definitely see the lion but the very first impression i got was of majestic mountains… a huge monolith. No matter which…this is awesome. So striking and without a doubt fantastic art :) way to “hang loose man”

  • thanks so much my friend, hey mountains will do it nicely, this is abstract planet, its all open – ‘fantastic art’ thanks a lot , i’m hangin loose man

The psychics call it ‘automatic painting.’ To get a message, from another dimension – albeit ambiguous and enigmatic.

An interesting experiment, Matt, which has had an amazing result!

  • hey now thats cool stuff colin, i can get into that, ive heard of auto writing but never thought of painting like that, certainly a straight pour out of paint seems less contrived or posessed as i feel the writing gets – thanks so much

Definitely looks like a ‘lion’ to me! I’m also very deeply interested in doing ‘unconscious’ drawings. ;-)

Oh yes . . . lazy art by a lazy artist.Splash it all over.
Yeah it works well and is unmistakeably a lion,cool.Lee.

  • lol yes, lazy lazy bugger eh, imagine us working in the same studio – there’s you etching away at a photographic lion for 50,000 hours, then i shuffle by and pour some paint out of a tub and climb back into bed, while folk come and comment on what fantastic art this is : )
