The Pilgrim’s Progress by the prisoner and dreamer John Bunyan. First published in 1687

“As I walked through the wilderness of this world, I lighted on a certain place where was a den, and laid me down in that place to sleep; and as I slept, dreamed a dream. I dreamed, and behold, I saw a man clothed with rags, standing in a certain place, with his face from his own house, a book in his hand, and a great burden upon his back.”

here’s William blake’s dramatic vision of the scene, towards the end of his life he completed 28 illustrations for the Pilgrim’s progress, the book is a masterpiece of spiritual symbology, the new age brigade cant touch it

    Great words.Fascinating image.Kinda olde worlde . . . I dunno almost ‘Punch’ like.As in the magazine not the babybeating live-in-lover of Judy.Good work.Lee.

  • oldy worldy i love that sort of feel, like folk art and kind of primitive stuff, funny you mention punch too, i was never a picture appreciator, but i used to enjoy looking at the punch images in old books – ’babybeating live in lover of judy lol, – i never thought of a puppet in such terms before : ) – it makes me wonder about sooty and sweep now
