Pictish animal designs from the standing stones of Scotland brought to life in acrylic paints.
before Scotland was called scotland by the invaders it was called Pictland, the Picts claimed to be the original, most ancient race of Britain, their symbology certainly supports their bold assertions of uniqueness . Here are some Pictish animal designs from the surviving standing stones of Scotland. homegrown symbols which contributed to the international Celtic art-scene that once sparkled across northern europe
Great to see you bringing Pictish/Caledonian art to a wider audience. People are familiar with the Celtic stuff, but I think the Caledonians had a unique touch to their work.
cheers rob, it will not surprise you that i agree, i love the celtic style, but yes i also like to see the early pictish stones free of the knotwork and continental themes, leaving the sheer simplistic mastery of the caledonian symbols.
