The Crash

Luk 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Acrylic paint on stretched canvas.

a strong and rather harrowing dream I’ve had is of a city destroyed by water.

51:42 The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

Amazing depiction of an event such as this would be, it looks like you lived it in your mind and it came as frightening as it would be, great job

  • Matthew Scotland replied

Spine tingling stuff. The waves of truth come crashing in on the sins of the city.

Cleansing waters come to purify the earth. Martyrs and Saints are made during and following the aftermath. God uses what is His to do what He must to a would that has turned it’s back on Him.

Painful imagery, a warning of what is to come but as is so often the case, the warning will go unheard by so many…and so the sadness remains, the statues and holy images continue to weep and why do They weep? How obvious is it….

I just sit here taking this in because the way you have depicted this is astonishing.

  • Matthew Scotland replied

‘the waves of truth…’ – now i like that- loving your description – a twisted section in my brain tried to make me paint the Lord riding in on a surfboard, weirdly funny to myself but it just felt so wrong to share

  • Tahnja

    Tahnja

that’s meant to say ‘to a *world that’s turned it’s back on Him”...sorry

  • Matthew Scotland replied

no not good enough – its over, sorry, ‘the would turning its back’ just flipped my lid, i cannot be doing with speeling mitsakes

wonderful! you have captured the most dramatic moment, water rising to attack and engulf the city… a battle front…luv the sky & the rich gray tones. great work.

  • Matthew Scotland replied

thanks rose, i like that idea too – a battlefront – a moment between the two sides colliding – thankyou

“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’
11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you,[e] and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’

  • Matthew Scotland replied

thanks for that Rob, theres so much in there its frightening. that great and terrible day will bring such extreme opposites of despair and rejoicing.

Indeed, we have had types in the past—Carthage, Rome (a few times), Jerusalem, and the chaos in the world last year at the near collapse of the markets. The real event will be quite something.

  • Tahnja

    Tahnja

wow, way to go Rob! You pleasantly surprise me.
The Lord on a surfboard whilst is quite funny, would definately not have been appropriate here, He does have a great sense of humour but at the right times and moments. You funny, funny man you…hehehe

I can somewhat relate to your dream. I had a crazy dream once when I was in college. I kept dreaming the end of the world was coming. It was a scary dream. I love your painting. Very powerful vision.

  • Matthew Scotland replied

thanks mate – yes those types of dreams fair imprint themselves on the mind, and hopefully thereafter on the canvas
