This piece is mesmerizing! The use of color and line is wonderful!
Matthew Scotland replied
cheers wedge, i am honoured by your compliments
FAIRIEWOMAN1
The way youve rendered this is hypnotic, like a vision coming together but not yet formed, or a memory of something that occurred long ago. The energy shimmers and vibrates. Great work, Matthew.
Matthew Scotland replied
thankyou loads helena, yes that is the spirit of the piece, a snapshot of a dreram, a fleeting vision swirling through the generations of battles past, thanks
Ruth Palmer
Wow Matthew! This is amazing stuff my friend!
Matthew Scotland replied
thankyou ruth, i appreciate your comments
Sarai
Have you submitted this or others of you work to publishers for books or book covers? I am journaling a sci-fi – supernatural story. Artwork like this helps the author imagery more conceivable.

This is my favourite of your work – wow! It very much captures a fiery turbulence and movement… love the way the main character rises above (and stands out above) all others.. Love it! What medium have you used?
Matthew Scotland replied
thanks so much leni, i like your rapport with this, as for medium, i used biro and felt-tip-pens
Deborah Holman
Amazing work I love Van Gogh and of course the spiral aspect. Although it reminded me of Van Gogh initially, I soon forgot him when I looked at your unique style.
Matthew Scotland replied
lol you forgot van goch you absolute charmer, i love it, i know you appreciate spirals too, i go through major spiral bouts, i await my next swirling fever with anticipation
Deborah Holman
:o)) Thanks for making me laugh I’ve not been called a charmer before. Do you think there is such a thing as a forever drawing spirals help group – although I’m sure I don’t really want to be helped really
Matthew Scotland replied
lol i know what you mean, perhaps there is a spirals ananymous somewhere, i can even remember in school being told-off for filling every jotter and margin with spirals whilst struggling entirely with the very basics of abc. well heres to our illness, long may we be afflicted
Tahnja
well I can see the wonderful work of Van Gogh in all those beautiful spirals, one of my all time favourite artists ever so I am equally charmed and thrilled to see the ongoing use of beautiful spirals. A depiction of great heart and spirit
Marleia Main

Matthew Scotland replied
cheers ariane, yes the spiral has certainly got something very special to tell us, it seems every tribe across the globe has tapped into the thing, may we go on spiralling and reveal its secrets
Marleia Main

Love the Pictish swirls :-)
Sebastiaan Koenen
Amazingly work and style.
Tammera
How wonderful…similar to Van Gogh…I love his swirls in starry starry night.
And how appropriate for you to use this very ancient symbol in the depiction of this work…. of the Picts loosing ground to empire…
the spiral yet lives in all it’s glory here….especially with the wonderful colors…congrats…
this is a very brilliant work….
Matthew Scotland replied
thankyou so much Tammera, yes those Picts were more addicted to spirals than Van Gogh on a helter skelter, spirals are so universal its a strange thing – i love starry night too, a spiral classic – thanks
