Hello, I’m Cahl Schroedl. I’ve been doing art for 23 years. I started off drawing at a fairly early age (6 years old) and did my first commissioned piece at the tender age of 8 (local theatre group needing a drawing of strangling hands). I never had a real inclination to see if art was going to be a constant in my life until the age of 15 when I saw a documentary “The Tightrope Dancer” about an Australian artist Vali Myers. I was inspired afterwards to continue with my drawings.
I lived in Canberra during my teenage years and while at college discovered my outlet for all forms of art and music. I never graduated due to hellish family problems, but in the end, that situation fuelled my emotional standing and added a focused core towards most forms of expression. I had my first group exhibition at age 19 at Canberra Contemporary Art Space and sold the 2 pieces shown.
Since then I have moved to Melbourne (1994) and have done everything from Tattoo design to Freelance Graphic arts and some more exhibitions (group and solo). I ended up meeting Vali Myers and we knew each other for about 12 years, Drawing together, drinking together and just talking about life. Meeting her did everything to help with my technique in drawing.
Although I am not formally trained I have tried to suppliment my knowledge through practical applications and studies into the Masters and Contemporary works. I also like licking original artworks. I have licked a Piccasso, De Kooning, Rodin, Dali through to Turner.
I can be a lunatic (so I have been told) and I love art. I hope you’ll find my little jaunt through visual expression interesting and I hope that some of my artworks strike a chord with you.
Oh and another thing, I’m colour blind. Enjoy.
