Shirtheads - featuring animo

This week’s tshirt that caught my attention

is by animo

So let’s all say ‘hello’ to animo, as she takes her meds… ;o)

This tshirt was inspired by a post in one of the forums here – this post, actually

Have you ever had an imaginary friend? Do you have one now?

No, but my sister had enough for the both of us. She still has one now (in her mid-thirties) which she sends to me when he’s been naughty and lets me know via SMS of his impending arrival. While visiting he would hide himself in the tumble-drier and on a few occasions [because he was not in my imagination, but my sister’s] I didn’t realise and threw in a load of wet socks on warm for half an hour. Luckily imaginary vomit comes off with a light shake.

How did you find the bubble? What made you stick around?

Actually, I found the Bubble in May 2007 while doing some research with a Melbourne gallery owner for a business idea we had promoting Australian art photographers online – what we had in mind was already being done ;-) I stick around because it’s a creative treasure trove, full of interesting and inspiring peoples (some of you have become offline friends as well)

What’s your favouritest tshirt ever?

That’s a hard one – there are so many great tees. At the moment my fave tee is a screen-printed version of the original ‘Hell’ design by Lucan Industries which curiously enough I found in an opp shop.

When do you stop watching?

While a man is having his head hacked off by a homicidal maniac on a greyhound bus in Canada… oh gawd. Or when your next door neighbour is f@#king his dog, you shouldn’t be watching, you should be ringing the RSPCA!!!

If you could pull a ‘freaky friday’ mind swap on two people, who would you choose?

Germaine Greer and Paris Hilton. What would happen? You do the sums.

What did you want to be when you were 12?

I wanted to be an archaeologist – while most of my friends had pictures of cute guys out of Dolly magazine plastered all over their bedrooms, I had dinosaur posters and those 3D plywood dinosaur skeletons that were so popular in the 80s. Enough said.

Who are you heroes right now?

Wonder Woman, because she is a formidable female role model… that and she lets me borrow her invisible plane. Too cool.

What do you better than anybody else?

Animo’s Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat Casserole Surprise… (between you and me Caanan, the surprise is there’s no Tuna in it!) Critically Endangered… because they’re so tasty.

If you could pass a law today, to make the world a better place, what would it be?

I would make it compulsory for everyone to study philosophy and learn how to think, and about the way they think. The idea being to enable people to live consciously, employ critical thinking skills to look beyond themselves, their possessions, their religion, their culture, their country and think about how what they do impacts on others, the world and the future. I see philosophy as a kind of vaccine against ignorance.

If you could jump into the world of any book, which would it be?

The Wind in the Willows, to meet Ratty, Mole and Mr Badger and mess about in boats on the river and I’d confiscate Mr Toad’s car keys because amphibians really shouldn’t drive ; )

Thanks Naomi! Don’t forget to bring back some pate de frais gras, thanks ;o)

See ya next week, folks!

Caanan.

Oh, this is sooooo good. Are you going to do a book of these some time.
If you do, remember I put my hand up to buy!!!!

  • A book one day would be awesome, but it would take a lot to put together, gathering high res versions of tshirt art from the victims, etc for layout purposes and stuff. It’d be a big job, and right now, I’m having enough trouble just trying to fit the strip into my schedule! Let’s not tempt fate here… ;o)

I’m fairly sure I had an imaginary friend when I was little… but I’m too level headed for that, so I think I introduced them as ‘my imaginary friend’.

Ha! frickin brilliant caanan – the likeness of my sister (and actually my pony-tailed self) is uncanny. Brings back sooo many memories, you have no idea ; )

  • Actually, Naomi, to get the look of the character I just took one look at that little, cropped profile photo you have and tried to create something out of that, so yay! that I got some resemblance! ;o)

This is great, and I love the interview.. if for no other reason than it’s nice to know there were other people playing with those plywood dinosaur skeletons well past the point of it being cool :)
