i once fell asleep
under a massive redwood tree.
i awoke and i was looking up the side
of this huge beast,
so tall
it disappeared into the clouds.

an epiphany for me.

for a sliver of time
i was witnessing a view
that took thousands of years to perfect,
and it has stood so proudly,
in this one spot,
never complaining,
not the least bored
with its permanency
or its inability
to do a single thing about it,

except to dance far up in the clouds.
