Wings 2 by

The Galah can be easily identified by its rose-pink head, neck and underparts, with paler pink crown, and grey back, wings and undertail. Birds from the west of Australia have comparatively paler plumage. Galahs have a bouncing acrobatic flight, but spend much of the day sheltering from heat in the foliage of trees and shrubs. Huge noisy flocks of birds congregate and roost together at night.
Their call is a distinctive high-pitched screech, ‘chi-chi’.

About byronbackyard

Many thanks for checking out my photos, please feel free to give feedback! My wanderings in nature and observations of birds, particularly raptors, is what gives me great joy and constantly reminds me of the beauty and strength of life. My favourites are raptors, I love their freedom, grace, ruthlessness, pride, adaptability and flexibility and I learn much about parenting, protection and blind faith from them.

What a great shot with the dark background. Another fav Mate.

  • Thanks Al, they’re in a dark corner so I’ve been playing around with some new settings!

Wow, what a great capture. We used to see lots of galahs, cockies and corellas at our last place but there aren’t any trees where I am now. Unfortunately!

Do you mind me asking, what was your exposure time and ISO? It must have been pretty fast to get such a clear shot.

  • Many thanks Jan …. you know it’s one of the first time I’ve used Tv (my fav is usually Av) ISO 400 / 1/160 and spot metering!

Your choice has worked very well. Lol, my preferred setting is Manual but I’m mostly shooting static (still life) things so I don’t need to worry about movement. I hope you continue to try this out as it’s worked so well here – I was pulling my hair out when i first started using the manual setting as I had no real idea what I was doing! It’s worth perservering wit.

  • I do use Manual at times but because my ‘thing’ is birds in flight I usually don’t have the time!
