The Pied Butcherbird is a medium-sized black and white bird. It has a full black hood, dark brown eye and long, hooked, grey and black bill. It has a broad white collar that goes all around its neck and a black bib (throat area). The rest of the underparts are white and the legs are black. The upper parts are mostly black, with large patches of white on the wings and rump. In flight, the white corners of the otherwise black tail are easily seen. Both sexes have identical plumage, but the male is slightly larger than the female. Many people consider the Pied Butcherbird to be the best singer of all Australia’s birds.
Yes they are great singers and mimics, and tamed very easily. I don’t really like having them around as the other birds hate them, since they have started hanging around our place the Finches have gone.
Yep they can be quite aggressive, the finches might have moved on anyway, they are migratory and usually return!

I love their song, did you get to see what he was digging up?
Yes they have a beautiful voice, he was digging in the mud, hence the mud on his beak, probably for some kind of grub!

I just amazed as usual at the diversity of bird species again and again. Wonderful shot.
