Both Osprey parents expend considerable effort protecting the nest from intruders, including other Ospreys and potential predators.
Glorious in her victory the female Osprey chased the crows away from the nest for sometime today. She had a number of vocalizations and wouldn’t return to the nest until the crows were well gone!
It’s the second time I’ve stepped out into the creek and felt that I’ve ‘helped’ her and again I felt she acknowledged that. I believe it’s fairly rare for an Osprey to do a stationary hover above one’s head and have momentary eye contact!
