Harriet the juvenile Osprey hovers above the nest in the Belongil Estuary in Byron Bay. A Brahminy Kite hovers above until it’s chased away by the Osprey. Ospreys do vigorously defend their actual nests or nest sites from intruders. This is most likely because nests are used by the same pair for many years, and represent a significant investment of time and energy by that pair.
They are likely getting used to you pottering about with the camera gear. I was playing with some wrens in the same way. Skittish at first but then very bold. Its a better option than a hide :) Well done, these a great shots :)
Thank you so much … I’ve photographed them for a few years now and I ‘talk’ to them and make noises … they know who I am!
