A Tasty Mouthful! by

Galahs form permanent pair bonds, although a bird will take a new partner if the other one dies. The nest is a tree hollow or similar location, lined with leaves. Both sexes incubate the eggs and care for the young. There is high chick mortality in Galahs, with up to 50 % of chicks dying in the first six months. Galahs have been recorded breeding with other members of the cockatoo family, both in the wild and captivity. These include the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.

About byronbackyard

Many thanks for checking out my photos, please feel free to give feedback! My wanderings in nature and observations of birds, particularly raptors, is what gives me great joy and constantly reminds me of the beauty and strength of life. My favourites are raptors, I love their freedom, grace, ruthlessness, pride, adaptability and flexibility and I learn much about parenting, protection and blind faith from them.

Oh honey, this is one of my favorite parrots! When I was in the pet trade I hand reared one of these and it broke my heart when she was purchased. I raised her and I was very picky who she went to! Since then thank God, they stopped allowing sales of these parrots ~ Anyhow, this is so magnificent to see in the wild, great capture and fave no doubt!

Thanks Kimberley … they’re gorgeous birds and very playful, sometimes I see them twirling around the power lines and calling to each other …. they’re very much Aussie birds.

Gorgeous – I love how you have captured the detail. At our we farm, we are lucky to have galahs and cockatoos – this image, kinda makes me wish I was there now and not in the city.

  • Many thanks Michelle, that’s exactly why I wouldn’t like living in the city anymore!
