Galahs form permanent pair bonds, although a bird will take a new partner if the other one dies. The nest is a tree hollow or similar location, lined with leaves. Both sexes incubate the eggs and care for the young. There is high chick mortality in Galahs, with up to 50 % of chicks dying in the first six months. Galahs have been recorded breeding with other members of the cockatoo family, both in the wild and captivity. These include the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. Canon 450D, EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Oh honey, this is one of my favorite parrots! When I was in the pet trade I hand reared one of these and it broke my heart when she was purchased. I raised her and I was very picky who she went to! Since then thank God, they stopped allowing sales of these parrots ~ Anyhow, this is so magnificent to see in the wild, great capture and fave no doubt!
Thanks Kimberley … they’re gorgeous birds and very playful, sometimes I see them twirling around the power lines and calling to each other …. they’re very much Aussie birds.
Gorgeous – I love how you have captured the detail. At our we farm, we are lucky to have galahs and cockatoos – this image, kinda makes me wish I was there now and not in the city.
Many thanks Michelle, that’s exactly why I wouldn’t like living in the city anymore!
