The cassowary is a very large flightless bird native to the tropical forests of New Guinea, nearby islands and northeastern Australia. The Southern Cassowary is the third tallest and second heaviest living bird, smaller only than the Ostrich and Emu. Cassowaries feed mainly on fruits, though all species are truly omnivorous and will take a range of other plant food including shoots, grass seeds, and fungi in addition to invertebrates and small vertebrates. They are very shy, but when disturbed but when disturbed can be aggressive. Canon 450D, EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

Fantastic portrait shot. I really like the contrast between its colourful head & the dark grey feathers of its body. Lovely DoF and composition, good use of its body as a background. Well done.
Thanks Paul, great feedback, the bird did comply rather well with positioning itself for the shot
You’re very welcome Byron. Yes, I imagine it was not an easy shot to get. I tried like mad to get one when I was down there, but no such luck. They just aren’t terribly social are they!! LOL!!
No they’re downright antisocial, can’t say I blame them though!
