Loving those Pine-cones by byronbackyard

Taken down the back of my yard in Byron Bay, the Cockatoos return at the same time every year for the pine-cones.
At the same time every year the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos arrive, always heralding and bringing rain. Their mournful, plaintive cry is heard overhead as they arrive in my backyard on slowly flapping wingbeats. In recent years it has been in rapid decline because of native habitat clearance, with a loss of food supply and nest sites.

Many thanks for checking out my photos, please feel free to give feedback! My wanderings in nature and observations of birds, particularly raptors, is what gives me great joy and constantly reminds me of the beauty and strength of life. My favourites are raptors, I love their freedom, grace, ruthlessness, pride, adaptability and flexibility and I learn much about parenting, protection and blind faith from them.

Wow, how beautiful he is! Cool shot!

  • They’re amazing birds …. very big and huge wingspan. You’re right, this is the male with the pink eye-ring, in the female it’s grey!
