Artist's Description

Original Photo by Michelle Siranovic
Post Production by Byron.

The original colour image was washed out due to the camera pointing almost directly at the sun. The right hand side of the Fort was burnt out and had almost no texture or detail. The sky was a flat, lifeless, insipid pale blue with a huge white burn-out caused by the sun. There was a very distracting flag pole on the top of the Fort and some people on the top-left. Overall a very poor image that needed a lot of work.

PROCESS:

  1. Converted to B&W,
  2. Hand-Select and remove sky,
  3. Copied remaining layer and converted to negative,
  4. Balanced original and negative layers to create a “Solarized” effect and to bring out detail in burnt out areas.
  5. Merged layers.
  6. Create new layer (clouds)
  7. Composite clouds into background. (Merge Layers.)
  8. Adjusted Levels.
  9. Burn in rocks around the base of the Fort.
  10. Crop.
