It was late afternoon on Vancouver Island. I had spent the day shooting water-bombing fire fighting planes. just finished a late lunch in an all-u-can-eat chinese restaurant.
We were driving thru the carpark near the river heading towards an old papermill when Ithought the sunset might look nice. I didn’t know there were geese in the shot until I got home 2months later.
In post production I thought that the geese looked like plaster-ducks on a wall, which was popular back in the 50’s & 60’s. The sunset was rather ordinary, so after some very harsh cropping I ended up with this shot.

Hey – I watched a documentary on these birds acouple of weeks ago. They are pretty awesome creatures. Great shot of them here!!
Very cool shot. This would look fabulous as a huge print, maybe 4 or 5 feet long. Great job.
Wow, very nicely done!!
again, great shot!
Great shot. The direction of the geese draws the eye across the frame! Cool!
This is so beautiful!! It reminds me of the movie fly away home. AWESOME SHOT!!
here we just call them ‘geese’.
How amazing!
Like you directed them where to go for the best composition. I love the reflections and how the dimensions of the piece all point to flying…traveling forward. LOVE it.
I forgot to mention that your commentary is super. Brings added magic to the images. A book someday?
Gotta go!
Laundry to do.
Oh wow – what a perfect shot :)
Thanx. I kinda like it too.
