Thanks, I added a link to your journal entry on my journal entry. Haven’t had any problems w/collections yet but did find the members’ tips really help fill in the blanks that the FAQ didn’t explain well enough.
BYRON:
There will be a fair bit of learnin’ over the next few days and weeks, just wait until some of us tech-geeks come up with some cool new ways of using this new facility!
Stay tuned!
BYRON
I wonder if this works:
architecture
BYRON:
and it DOES!
right-click on your Collection Avatar, copy the HTTP / URL and paste it as a text link and it takes you straight to that Collection!

Fantastic Byron…we are much more positive this time eh? (Canadian speak)
BYRON:
I think a lot of the members are trying to make this a positive experience this time. There are a lot of members out there lending a hand to help people with the transition.
Robin Brown
Mmmmmm not being a techy, more a technofobe; I’m a wee bit put out if I’m honest. I’m sure somebody somewhere know’s what they’re doing :o(

I miss the squares on my public profile =(
BYRON:
You can still have the squares on you public profile by “hightlighting” a collection. This will display 6 squares for you at the top of you page. The great thing is that you can change these anytime you want by clicking a button.
DoreenPhillips
Hi Byron…..Well done for this…..x
I cannot link ,copy images ,I am using chrome have you any tips….Please?…..I am still looking around ……Cheers!!!….x
BYRON:
Hiya Doreen,
Its seems across the board that people are having problems with google chrome.
I expect by now that Admin are aware of it, but just to be sure, send them the details of what your problems are HERE
ANewKindOfWater
That wasn’t so hard. For the collections panels each panel’s edit button lets you pick which will be the panel image. I’m liking this more than the “show the first 6, then next page is everything by views” layout from before.
I’d like more control over the “Recently” section below the collections – “Recently” should be an optional collection. I should probably also retire my “t-shirt grid” on the left, and swap it with some close-ups or something.
OOOH also, some hint in edit-mode of what works are in no collections at all, so they can then be sorted somewhere. In general I’m pleased with the changes.
ANewKindOfWater
@Doreen – download firefox if you’re having too much trouble with chrome.

Well collected, Byron :)

As soon as i have more time will dive in more a big thank you for the HELP here!!
vampvamp
what about the glitches mate? ie; can’t paste anything into a comment box, if there is anything before it. can’t create active links. even if you type in the url/address after pasting in the item’s url, the active link doesn’t work!
BYRON:
there are always bugs when new stuff is released.
Are you using google chrome? I am using IE and having no problems with links etc. You should report bugs etc to admin using the Feedback facility HERE
The tech guys will be busy fixing all the bugs, but give them a few days and I am sure they will get things back to normal.
LisaMM
Thanks Byron. Great links.

I love this new feature, Byron. It’s great!!! ~ Lynn
BYRON:
I know … its more fun than watching your pet cat annoy your pet dog…
Collections are seriously cool!
scallyart
I love the collections feature also. As I work in so many different ways it is great to be able to put work of a certain style together.
BYRON:
and it is soooo easy!
I love that you can have the same image in different Collections!
And… finally writers have a great way to organise their work!
I will give RB my first-born son if they allow us to do the same with our Journals!
millymuso
Hi Byron! I’ve managed to get the Collections feature to work, but after spending an hour trying to make up and reorder some collections, I’m clicking on them and they’re saying their empty! :(…I can highlight certain collections and the first few photo’s are showing on my profile page, yet the collections folder is still showing up empty!! I think I’ve broken the internet!:(
BYRON:
OK… hmmm. I can’t say for sure, but maybe… you have chosen the wrong defaul display settings for those images [in the gallery].
For example, you may have accidentally set it to tee shirts, in which case it will indicate that it is empty since photographs can not be displayed as shirts.
Go back and check that. via the red EDIT button top right corner.
Tell me how that goes!
BYRON:
oh, and you don’t need to have framed images on your portfolio page, since you can now create a collection of your images and set the default display to FRAMED.
millymuso
Oh I think that’s what I must have done, set it to framed. I put the framed photo’s on my profile before knowing about collections, so I think I’ll get rid of those and put them into where they can be for sale collection or something. Will try it now, thaaaank yoooou!!! :)
millymuso
Yaaaay! It’s worked!!! thank you Byron, you’re a star!!! :)
BYRON:
excellent!
izzybeth
thanks!

THANKS SO MUCH BYRON @lIZ

Awesome, Byron – thanks :))
Octochimp Designs
I liked collections for a while, but have now dumped them. It is very cool and quite well designed EXCEPT that it remains an ongoing job to put your new work into the collections. When you add a new work there should be tick-boxes as part of that process so you can (in the same process) add them to your existing collections as well. Without that, I just can’t see myself using them. I’ve come up with an alternative approach which I believe is very similar, and never needs updating. Have a look and let me know what you think.
BYRON:
I think that the Collections Facility is a good fit for most of the membership… especially those who are less computer savvy or have no design / post production skills.
I do like your graphic links on your profile page – very very cool …. they allow for a whole new level of creativity and design.
There are some incredible examples of graphic that have been used in unique & creative ways.
I am working on some myself.
Debbie Robbins
Probably not the place for this but I MISS MY ARROWS!!!! love the collections!!!!!! but I would LOVE to be able to move around those RECENT images at the bottom of my page with ARROWS like we had before…… i do drag around the items WITHIN THE COLLECTIONS>… but NEVER seem to be able to make the FIRST ONE change no matter how any times I drag something NEW to the FIRST item in a collection?? not sure why?? lol OVERALL IT IS WONDERFUL!
BYRON:
It was a shame they got rid of the arrows. Just as a file management tool, they were very useful, but I suspect there was a programing confilct between the arrows and the collections software.
The RECENT list is exactly that, in order of upload… so you can’t re-arrange it.
Debbie Robbins
MANY THANKS… I HAVE USED THE GEAR!!!! and managed to change the COVER photo for each Collection!!!! shall learn much more thru your links I am sure…. thanks again….
but if ARROWS info is anywhere please LINK…. hahahahahah
BYRON:
well done, glad you got it to work!
Jill Reger
It seems alot easier to just shoot one subject :-)
BYRON:
It seems a bit dauniting at first because it is unlike any system we have used before, but you can play with it…. nothing is fixed in stone with this system.
Play around with it and have some fun. It is a great way of letting your viewers know what type of work they can find in your portfolio, and a great way of them going straight to the work they want to see.
Jill Reger
I just shoot and upload cars… so i was just teasing… I’m finding some people are “overusing” the categories… they will break their stuff down too much…example… instead of “cars”. they will put “wheels” “hood ornaments” etc…. just my opinion though… categories are good if they are not overused
BYRON:
Yeah there is a bit of “over-categorising” going on with the Collections Facility… but I think it is just a case of everyone is trying the new “thing” until they get used to it…
Pauline Tims
HAVING TROUBLE DRAGGING AND DROPPING INTO COLLECTION.i ;LOSE THE IMAGE BEFORE i GET TO COLLECTION OR IT ENDS UP IN WRONG COLLECTION. PLEASE HELP
PAULINE
BYRON:
Hiya Pauline, sorry for the delay in getting back to you – just finished 2x nightshifts!
This sounds like a problem with your computer, probably your mouse. Check that the batteries are charged [if it is a cordless-mouse], also check that the buttons are working.
After a lot of use the mouse-buttons tend to not work as well as they should, and even tho you may be holding the button down, electrically the switch may “let-go”… and this may be what is causing you to “lose” the images before they get to the Collection of your choice.
Also… it could be a “memory usage” issue in your CPU.
Have you:
1. cleaned your Internet cache recently?
2. performed a “Disk Defragmentation” recently [if you are using Windows]
These two things will help improve the performance of your system, otherwise – I am not sure specifically what would be causing this problem for you… I doubt it is an issue with the RB site.
Pauline Tims
When I drag photo over collection the arrow does not show so picture won’t add. I have managed a few but need to make more any tips please?
BYRON:
I have tried this extensively today, and I can easily move images in and out of my Collections, including the red bar at the bottom of the page for confirming you want to re-arrange your collection, or remove an image from your collection.
Again, I feel this may be an issue with your system.
1. What platform [and version] are you using… Windows, Linux, Mac…?
2. What Internet Browser [and version] are you using… Internet Explorer, FireFox, etc…
Pauline Tims
Hi Byron thabks for getting back to me , I just got it working this afternoon, I have finally cracked it. Many thanks once again I do appreciate the help
kind regards Pauline
BYRON:
That is excellent news Pauline.
So what was the problem, just in case anyone else has similar issues?
Pauline Tims
I trid everything you said, and it suddenly worked. I have several collections now and am very happy , many thanks Pauline
BYRON:
That’s great. So it seems it was a systems fault after-all.
