ok, BIG family Christmas dinner last night.
One of my sisters made something I have never had before. Its a Greek dish.
Apparently.
Its also very simple.
Slices of Watermelon, each with a mint leaf and a slice of Fetta cheese. OMFG it is truly amazing.
Bear in mind that I hate Watermelon.
I am using the word “hate” to describe a piece of fruit, and I am using the word deliberately. I know Australians are supposed to love watermelon, but I don’t.
I consider eating watermelon to be an experience slightly more enjoyable than drinking paint.
And I pigged-out on this stuff. I couldn’t get enough.
My sister and I tried Watermelon and Mint… meh, wouldn’t do it a 2nd time.
We tried Watermelon and Fetta Cheese… double meh,
We tried Mint and Fetta… meh plus a side order of blech.
But all three together somehow create an amazing magic.
Watermelon, Fetta, and Mint Leaves.
Try it – you wont be dissapointed.
My sister told me that she has made it with moroccan spiced chicken as a salad. You can find a recipe for it here at TASTE.COM [although this one is watermelon, haloumi & mint… and it has onions – you really only need the salty goats cheese, mint and the melon]

Wow! Crazy…I never would have thought of this combination.
I’ll have to try it sometime. Thanks for the tip.

Try this as an alternative:
- A whole watermelon
- use an apple corer to put a hole along one side
- add a funnel to the hole
- over a few hours add 1/2 a bottle of vodka to funnel
- chill and serve

I hope I can remember to try it…I still haven’t tried making the sangria yet. Does it matter how thinly the watermelon is sliced?
BYRON:
we did wegdes that were about 1cm [half inch] thick, about the same for the fetta but about half as much fetta as melon per slice.
