MAINE HOUSE, NEW ENGLAND USA
This is my cousin’s holiday farmhouse in Maine – New England Region USA.
It is about 150 years old and made up of many parts which were added over its life. None of the floors are level and it has a meandering internal layout with narrow staircases and low cielings.
MAINE HOUSE, NEW ENGLAND USA belongs to the following groups:

beautifully framed image, well suited to Black & White, gives it the aged look, overall a very stunning photograph.
BYRON
Thanx Chris,
It was exactly what I was aiming for when I pressed the shutter release.
I had spent the afternoon wandering around their yard shooting from every angle. I walked around one of the huge pine trees in their front yard and I saw this gap in the trees and thought:
“Wow!, that’s THE shot”
I only took the one frame, I knew it would be spot-on.
Kathy Petras
absolutely gorgeous. every aspect is just fantastic.
Andrew Mark
the isolation that the black and white offers to this picture is true talent! very well done
BYRON
Thanx Andrew, I was just in the right place at the right time, but generally even tho I shoot with a colour digital, I always “see” in B&W when taking the picture. I did know that this would look good, but that doesn’t happen very often.

Lauren Marr
ooohh scary and pretty…that is cool.
BYRON
LozKat, you are the first person EVER to get the scary thing about this pic. Its soooo Hansel & Gretel. (Actually this whole part of America is rather freaky~scary)
billyboy
Nice use of space within the frame to surround seeming tranquility with darkness and foreboding. Hansel & Gretel indeed!
Gregoryno6
Maine is Stephen King territory – say no more.
BYRON
Actually Gregoryno6, it is just down the road from where Stephen King got hit by a car. He lives less than a mile away. The thing that was really … freaky … is that all SK’s book are set in this region. Its a really beautifull area but its very quiet, and EVERYTHING looks like every SK book I have ever read. Its an interesting feeling being there!

Vim Lowenstein
whenever I hear Maine I think Stephen King and this house looks like a house he’d describe or be shown in one of his adaptations.
Vim Lowenstein
its like from the point of view of some entity waiting to come out and attack the humble quaint household with unimaginable horror yeah i am rambling

Ah, I kept scrolling and found my answer to part of this remarkable shot: “It helped that I also used a polarising filter to darken the sky and bring out the clouds.” Beautiful photo.
