Next month, on February 22nd Ash Wednesday, I will commence Adam’s Photographer of the Day. This will be my fourth year that I am doing this on Redbubble.
For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, I pick a different photographer from Redbubble each day and showcase his or her work during Lent. I chose a photographer whose images move me in some way. Whether it be the beauty of a landscape, a macro, people, animals, buildings or just something that looks really cool. It doesen’t matter. I do keep it isolated to photography however, and not drawings or paintings.
I do this during the Catholic Lenten season to something positive for people instead of giving something up in a self sacrifice. My main goal is to bring notoriety to a photographer’s work, especially the person that has gone by barely noticed. My greatest achievement would be for someone to get a sale as a result of my showcasing of their work. That would really make my day.
What I do is find an image that makes me go “OOOH” or “WOW” and I review the images in that photographer’s portfolio. Then I pick three images and write about each image as well as why those works moved me or please me in some way. Then I urge everyone reading my post to click on one of the images that they like. Clicking will link that person to page that allows comments and I urge everyone to leave a nice comment on it. You have no idea on this totally makes that photographer’s day. It is a real boost to their confidence and a huge lift emotionally.
So, stay tuned won’t you. It will be a fun ride. It is a bit of work to do this every day for the 47 days that start on Ash Wednesday, Feb 22, 2012 up to and including Easter Sunday. I do this for those 47 days only and then collapse. LOL
I have a few people in mind already, but it seems like every year I do this, I start having difficulty finding new photographers that have the kind of beauty that I want to show off. So, if you know of someone deserving and want to make a suggestion, send me a Bubblemail and I’ll check it out. Please don’t feel hurt if I don’t use that person, but then again you never know.

I also pick someone special for a grand finale. Click here

You’ve got a great series going, thanks from everyone who looks and reads. I have a lot of favorites and watch list entries from previous years, and eagerly look forward to this year’s selections. I share your wonderment and compliment you on your generous and industrious soul.
Thank you Neal. That means a lot to me. I hope to show off some wonderful work and maybe make some new friends along the way. We may all make new friends.

Whoa… it’s that time of year already?? Where’s the time going? Eeek I’m getting scared :o(
Although I am looking forward to this year’s picks Mister new avatar.
Don’t be scared. The Photographer of the Day does not bite. ’Cause you know I can make you say “Oooh” and “WOW”.

You are a good man Adam Bykowski. I can only imagine the time and effort it takes you to do this every year, especially since I think I’ve come to know you well enough to know that you put your all into it. I have been wondering if you were going to do this again this year. Glad to see you are and God Bless You for caring so much about others. I was a bit disengaged from RB last year around this time, but I hope to be more diligent this year about supporting not only your efforts with this, but also the amazing photographers you always seem to find.
Thanks John. I appreciate your checking and writing those words. Maybe you can do me a small favor. Maybe spread the word once in a while between now and Feb 22nd (Ash Wed) to other Bubblers about my daily writing on the Photographer of the Day series. I think many of us feel a void of emptiness on the lack of activity and comments like there used to be. It might give them something to look forward to every day of Lent.

Absolutely Adam. As a matter of fact, I just met four RB’ers from Green Bay a couple weeks ago … Tim, Scott and Zandra Denny and Jeff Weymier. They are primarily bird and wildlife like me, but I will tell them about your photographer of the day initiative and suggest maybe they add you to their watchlist and check out some of the hidden treasures you discover this year. These guys have been wanting to get together and especially try to photo the eagles out in iowa. We first met a couple weeks ago and photographed the Mexican Gray Wolves at Brookfield and then they came back again last week and we went out to Iowa and had a great day with the eagles. I also know a great bird photographer named Andrea from New Zealand and another local lady (Lombard) named Marija. I will clue them all in and anyone else I think of. I see last year you discovered Mike Umbie. Is he amazing or what? I used to work with him at Lucent. I went to a couple photography club meetings he belongs to in Naperville where he seems to win about 4 out of every 5 competitions and is very humble too.
Thanks so much John. You’re the best.
