I titled this image Dream Come True because it is. I remember visiting the Butterfly Tent at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago every year and seeing all these great butterflies land on all these neat glowy orange flowers. I asked one of the girls working there what kind of flowers they were and she told me they were Mexican Sunflowers. That was three years ago and I always thought how I have to eventually plant some of those in a garden designed for butterflies. Well this spring I finally got some Mexican sunflower seeds and planted four seeds. Two of them sprouted and finally started to bloom about a week ago. Today a monarch kept feeding on just about every flower in my garden and so I grabbed my camera. It kept feeding on my black eyed susans or my pink phlox that were too difficult to get to and then suddenly the monarch lands on the one Mexican Sunflower that is visible and in bloom. I slowly walked near it and moved the camera in and started clicking away. I must have gotten 30 shots of him almost posing for me in different angles.
I was so pleased and felt “YES!” a small dream finally come true.
