Many are calling it the “Wave”, but is officially titled The Aqua building. I think this has now become my new favorite buidling. It was just finished in 2009 and was designed by a woman; Jeanne Gang.

It seems Chicago has no fear of being bold and unique in its architecture. This building is an apartment/hotel.The building’s height of 819 ft (250 m), includes six levels of parking below ground. The building’s eight-story, 140,000 sq ft (13,000 m2) base is topped by a 82,550 sq ft (7,669 m2) terrace with gardens, gazebos, pools, hot tubs, a walking/running track and fire pit.

In short, this design is pure genius.

I enjoy photography of all kinds. If it was how I supported my family financially, it would be a dream come true.

I hope you could get me some nice shots of the Hawks parade! :) I was rooting for them entire playoffs!!!

  • Thanks. I’m afraid I will be at work while the parade is going on. Still have to make a living you know. Can’t seem to figure out how to make a living at photography.

Oooooo interesting design for a building, it looks lovely from this pov. You can really appreciate the undulation of the ‘wave’ as it goes up the building.

  • It’s an awesome building from the outside. I would love to stay there someday, but probably would not want to spend the big bucks to do so. Thanks.

Coool Shot Adam . . . My Neck Hurts!!! It really is neat how you’ve captured the wave effect. I have heard of this building, but haven’t seen it … didn’t even know it was finished for that matter. This may seem like a dumb question, but curious what kind of aperture you use for a shot like this.

  • Thanks for the great comment. I focused a third of the way up and used f22 and a polarizing filter. Pretty easy. It’s not like wind was a factor.
