Where the River Splits in Chicago by

The Merchandise Mart on the left, The 333 Wacker Drive building on the far right. The river opens up into a bay right in front and splits in two directions here.

I enjoy photography of all kinds. If it was how I supported my family financially, it would be a dream come true.

Very nice evening shot with lovely reflections in the river. AND in the building on the right. Wow! I really must get down there one evening and practice my night photography. Havent “discovered” that aspect of this hobby for myself yet. This inspires me to get to it!!! Great shot Adam!

  • Thanks for the great comment. This is a great spot because the river bends here and goes in two directions. You can shots from so many angles. Just take the Kennedy Expy and get off at Lake St. and go east. It is not even a mile from the exit.

A great night shot Adam! Such lovely light and reflections! Chicago must have been beautiful this day!

  • Thanks Barb. It was a very clear day. Cold, but clear.

Very nice shot Adam, I don’t think I have visited this place, I do not remember river, I remember lake and piers and of course 100 something floor of the Sears Tower ;)

  • This area of downtown Chicago is not that well visited on foot. However, tour boats go past here often. The river tour is nice. That is something you would want to do as a tourist. You would see what you see here and alot more.

  • Thanks so much. There are so many street lights here. They really help light up the river.

Another great city shot Adam. Excellent glow! One of the issues – and this is a personal taste – that I find when shooting city skylines is that the buildings often appear to fall inwards. I prefer to use an aspect correction tool to correct it on my own images, but others prefer to leave well enough alone. Either way, this is beautifully clean shot. Cheers, S.

  • This has been brought to my attention before, but I never seem to get every building straight. I just make sure the horizon is level and deal with the rest. I wonder if magazines reject images for that reason.

Good question about the magazine thing. I doubt it would be an issue, with the exception of advertisers perhaps. Some prefer the concave feel, others want it to look like it would with the naked eye. Would a different lens have corrected this? Questions leading to more questions??? Cheers, s.

Adam, great exposure and composition on this. Really enriches the colors without a hint of artificiality. Fine, fine work, my friend!

  • WOW! That is a great comment. I like the colors to be rich, but not overdone. Thanks so much for that.
