Today’s photographer of the day is Joel Tjintjelaar.

Joel’s images do not have the Buy/Preview button for me to copy and paste them here like I normally do, so you will have to click on the blue lettered links to see them and understand what I am writing about.

Joel’s work is in black and whites and he specializes in long exposure photography. The long exposure part meaning exposures up to as long as 210 seconds. The result is beautiful milky waters and wispy smooth skies. This is a wonderful effect and makes for stunning photography that eminates a ethereal effect and a sense of tranquility and sometimes mystery. Joel has a great talent for capturing wonderful black and white images that portray so much beauty and stark contrasts and he has proof of that not only in his images, but in awards. Joel has won International Photography Awards in 2010 (IPA 2010): 2nd in Bridge competition with a series of 5 bridge shots. In the Sony World Photography Awards 2010 (SWPA 2010), he was nominated and finalist for Landscape world photographer of the year 2010 with Bridge Study and honourable mention for the photo Connected. WOW! To be a finalist for photographer of the year in any category speaks volumes about his talent and ability to produce high quality images. Congratulations and kudos to you on that Joel.

Then let’s go to a cool image in the Domburg Groynes II image. The long line of wooden posts lead your eyes into the image and follow them out to a beautiful smooth and silky sea creating a mellow mood. The focusing was handled very well in this image as depth of field is a challenge in such an scene. The sunlit posts against that wispy clouded sky accent each other to create something unique.

And for a total sense of mystery, we have the Void III image. The steel fence leading downward into what is supposed to water with large waves from a strong wind. The result from this 150 second exposure is the water taking on the appearance of fog. So it looks like the steel fence in going down into a foggy void oof an otherworldly place. Great presence of mind and some imagination make this a very intriguing image. Really love this one.

So there you have it. Another very talented and creative artist using the magic of a 10 stop neutral density filter and the power of the mind. Would you be so kind as to leave Joel some great comments? He deserves it and I’m sure he will be very grateful.

Thank you Joel for your wonderful images and beautiful images created throught the use of your special technique. I have to also thank Garth Smith for pointing me in your direction. Looking forward to seeing more images from Joel soon.

Some lovely smooth b&w’s in Joel’s portfolio. I especially love the way bright sunlight looks in b&w, it has a warm, romantic look to it and Joel has captured that perfectly in some of his shots. Nice choice Adam. ;o)
