WOW that was close…
Riding Sidecars is not for the faint hearted and I know that from experience – At over 160Kph, these dare devils, Bruce Collins and his passenger, Peter Deangelas, were pushing their beautifully prepared, 1977 Suzuki 750 as hard as they could in their event at the 2009 Historic Road Race Championships, September 5th. at the Morgan Park Raceway, Warwick, Queensland. They didn’t do too bad either…

Opps mind your head!! Coolshot my friend :))

  • Thank you Lyndy your comments mean a lot to me. I know how hard it is to ride these monsters (I’ll tell you about that one day) – and he really was “Close to the wall” – I nearly had heart failure when I saw it… only a few metres away from me :-))

cool! there’s nothing like watching a good team move in tandem … i used to love watching the sidecars at the exhibition raceway – they were rougher looking vehicles than these though -

  • Thanks for the visit and comment Helen – this was one of the best looking sidecars on the day – I have many shots of some of the rougher looking monsters :-) I just luv them all

if my sig. other’s son tim saw this he would want it. tim is into expensive gadgets. he loves boats and cars.

  • Oh Mary I built one back in the 70’s and raced it to a championship win – WOW was that a proud moment – If Tim wanted to buy one it would cost him a fortune – Today’s “LCR’s (Chassis name)” cost over $200,000 US… then there’s the cost of the motor to add to that… and it can only be ridden on a race track :-)

well tim doesn’t have this. but he has jetskis, a boat, home theatre, tv sets in the back of his vehicle, that type of thing. he could not afford 200K!

  • Ha ha ha – May I’d like to see the TV in the back of his vehicle :-))) sounds like he likes to spend money :-)))

did you really build one?? you should be proud! now a days no one can do anything it seems they have to buy it.

  • It’s the fastest “team” sport in the world. Yeah mate I did build one – I designed and built the frame, did the fibre glass molding myself and took the motor out of my bike and hotted it up to make it competitive. I did nearly all of the work myself, at home. My passenger, Colin, was a mechanic so he helped with the motor and I got a small engineering mate to do the tricky bits. In 1972 I won the championship with it and didn’t realise I was so close to winning until the last 2 races – Talk about sweating it out LOL. :-)) I could never do that now – they wouldn’t let me compete without it being certified.

george you hit it on the nail. he wastes so much money. he buys vehicles. gets tired of them and resells them. the tv in back is for his son to watch. he is eight. but he has wasted so much money and he really needs to be careful. he has a home theatre business. if he gets a lean time he will be in trouble…well he will bother his Mom mike’s ex for cash (mike does not have any. — i love him anyway)

  • Oh Mary! perhaps he could use a lessen or two about looking to the future – you never know when you might need a few $ :-)

now why did that come out bold? hey what happened to your racer?

  • I sold it to my passenger – My wife (at the time) was at me about spending too much on it – So I didn’t really have a choice – and I hadn’t been involved in racing since then until last weekend.
The BOLD will come up if you put a * at either end of the words You Want Bold

I sometimes have to close my eyes when seeing these guys. Very nice action shot George, nice crisp detail.

  • Thanks again mate – yeah they say we (Sidecar racers) have damaged gray matter – I reply with – “give it a go – it’s better than sex” – not many take me up on that… I wonder why… – ROFL :-)))))

I reckon it would be a buzz to try. I’d give it a go

  • Mate i wish I still had mine – I’d be stoket to give you a ride – Only problem is it’s I think you’d love it and it is easy to get addicted to them LOL :-)))) – they’re just so different to any other vehicle…

Great action shot here George, your camera shutter must have been working overtime at the races that weekend. And I can honestly say this is brilliant.

  • Ha ha ha Thanks mate – I didn’t use it as much as I would have liked – Had the flag in my hand and the race control tower right in front of me- with the cans on my ears I had to keep an eye on the track – but I did get some awesome shots – so glad you like these – more to come :-)))
